Why do we need the BuzzFlood?

For years Dartmouth has been a center of academic excellence. But much of this excellence, we felt, went unnoticed. When Dartmouth spends so much time picking its students, professors, and staff, we should take some time to celebrate our school. Professors, alumni, students have confirmed our findings that Dartmouth deserves to be known as the premiere undergraduate college in the nation. They confirm that Dartmouth sometimes doesn't recognize the stories of its individuals. We simply shine the light on a few of the tremendous things happening here.

Is the BuzzFlood changing Dartmouth?

No. We're here to help tell Dartmouth's story. Professors have blitzed us information on their research. The Tucker Foundation has blitzed us stories on service because it wants to celebrate its role in service. Publishing stories on the Habitat for Humanity program at Tucker or the experience of a student on the Italian LSA will not change Dartmouth. We're simply recognizing the good.

What is the goal of the BuzzFlood?

Our goal is for Dartmouth to maintain its excellence. By encouraging it and recognizing it, we feel excellence will continue. Our goal is also to be a service to Dartmouth by informing individuals about the peerless Dartmouth experience.

Why are you "bragging" about Dartmouth?

Some might see it as bragging, but we don't think there's anything wrong when you talk about something you love. As they say, "If it's the facts, it ain't bragging." Or, as Dr. C. Everett Koop '37 says, "This is not a bragging exercise, as I understand it. It is a group of people who understand the peculiar mystique of Dartmouth doing their best to enhance public relations with...the college's constituencies, so that folks outside the college, will understand what we inside know full well: excellence of Dartmouth."

Who can write a story?

Anyone.

What are the requirements for stories?

Stories must be about 1-2 paragraphs. Keep it short and sweet. Stories should also celebrate excellence at Dartmouth in some way. Did your friend win a national scholarship? Is your fraternity performing hours of community service? Did you volunteer to work with the Tucker Foundation? Are you on an FSP and want to relate your experiences? How about commending your professor or guest lecturer? Reinforcing the positive and telling Dartmouth's story is important and powerful.

How can stories be submitted?

Just e-mail us the text of your story with a proposed headline to stories@buzzflood.org. Also include in the e-mail whether or not you wish your name to appear under the story, along with any e-mail address and/or website you wish your name to be linked to. (None of this information is required, and will only be put up after your request and only then). BuzzFlood reserves the right to publish and edit any and all submitted articles.
